Official Launch of Putnam Project Lighthouse
Putnam Project Lighthouse is pleased to announce the launch date of our program. On Tuesday, December 8, 2015, we are holding a press conference in the school board meeting room of the Putnam County School District downtown offices in Palatka.
There, we will dedicate our program to Avonte Oquendo, who lost his life due to autistic elopement. His tragic death prompted Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York to expand a Justice Department grant program to all law enforcement agencies in the United States. Avonte’s family was honored by President Barack Obama at his State of the Union address in 2015.
We will then explain the technology and demonstrate the equipment before placing a tracking bracelet on our first program enrollee, a young child with autism.
Last, Putnam Project Lighthouse will issue a challenge to all Northeast Florida counties to bring the Project Lifesaver program to their own communities. If the poorest county in the State of Florida can do it, so can they. (For information about the availability of this program in your county, visit Project Lifesaver International.)
Enrollment information will be posted to our blog on that day.
Interested in becoming a Project Lifesaver community? There are different ways it can be done, and we at Putnam Project Lighthouse, Inc. will be happy to speak to you about how we brought the program here.
