GPS Tracking
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department is a member agency of Project Lifesaver and utilizes their GPS transmitter equipment for the Project Lighthouse program. Project Lifesaver is the leader in elopement technology. To date, they have a 100% success rate in recovery of loved ones enrolled in this program.
Citizens enrolled in the program wear an electronic transmitter on either the wrist or ankle that emits an individualized tracking signal . Should a client go missing, caregivers notify the local program agency, and a trained emergency team responds to the wanderer’s area. Most clients are located fairly close to home and quickly – reducing search times to minutes rather than hours and days. That speed of recovery is what aids families in returning loved ones safely home. Recovery times average 30 minutes – 95% less than standard search operations. At this time, 2,952 loved ones have been safely rescued by Project Lifesaver technology.
